Old enough to laugh at everything, Young enough to know nothing.

After a day of shoveling snow my father sat down and stated that he wanted to watch a sappy love story.  This isn’t unusual for him as he really appreciates love stories.  i immediately went to think of typical romances that my parents and i enjoy, but then i realized that they were all straight romances. And then i wondered, would my parents have the same desire to watch a sappy love story if the couple in the movie were two girls?  i’m out to my parents and they’re very supportive of me but i think this is one example of what we deem “normal” in our society because my first instinct and my parents first instinct was certainly not inclusive of gay people.

Can I just watch a gay movie where nobody dies and they live happily ever after?

"Gay people were seen as magical too.
I mean, like in many cultures, men were viewed as warriors and women were viewed as caregivers. But gay people, being both male and female, were seen as both warriors and caregivers.
Gay people could do anything. They were like Swiss Army knives!
My grandmother had no use for all the gay bashing and homophobia in the world, especially among other Indians.
“Jeez,” she said. “Who cares if a man wants to marry another man? All I want to know is who’s going to pick up all the dirty socks?"

LGBTQ* Films  History You Should Know

Can you name the first pro-lesbian film? Can you name the year?

Mädchen in Uniform (Girls in Uniform) released in Germany in 1931 was the first feature-length film to portray a pro-lesbian storyline and relationship. The film is based on the novel (and play) Gestern und heute by Christa Winsloe.

First Photo:The story follows adoring Manuela, played by Hertha Thiele (right) who falls for her teacher Fräuline von Bernburg, played by Dorothea Weick (left). (1931 film)

Second/Third Photo: Remake (1951) of film. Fräuline von Bernburg is played by Lilli Palmer.

(Note: Loving Annabelle (2006)  has been compared to these films. The largest similarity is the teacher/student relationship.)

transsuccess:

Charley Wilson, better known as “Little Britches’”, born in 1834 in Britain, was a cattle thief from the Indian Nation of Oklahoma.  He was seeing a woman called Cattle Annie, who was also his “partner in crime”, and the pair were known to be closely associated with the Wild Bunch (aka: The Doolin-Dalton gang).  The Wild Bunch were a gang of outlaws in the 1890s.  They robbed banks and stores, held up trains and killed lawmen.  They were also known as the Oklahoma Long Riders for the long dusters they wore.

Charley was suspected of foiling the lawmen’s attempts to capture the Wild Bunch by warning the gang when they were in the area.  Very little is known about this historical gunfighter and cattle thief except that he lived as a man for over 40 years till he had to move into a facility for the elderly at age 63, where authorities forced him to dress as a woman.  Charley is listed as “one of the most famous female outlaws ever to strap on a six gun” despite his masculine dress and choice of male name.  We can only guess as to his gender identity being male.
